This type of content that you guys are making is incredibly helpful. Please make more videos like this and don't be afraid to dig deeper on all of the settings (what each setting does and etc). I bought a Q70T and you guys helped a lot. I would watch an hour or more of this if meant going deeper and deeper on each configuration. Thanks a lot and good job !
Hey everyone! We got a lot of questions about Filmmaker Mode so we're gonna pin this comment about it! Filmmaker mode is just a quick toggle that disables most processing on the TV and locks certain other adjustments. Each manufacturer can implement this differently as well. Our understanding is that the exact same results can be achieved through the settings menu, and our recommended settings are already close to the Filmmaker mode!
Game mode should be set to auto with the xbox. That way when you have ALLM on the TV will switch to game mode only when playing a game. It will auto switch off game mode back to standard, dynamic, filmmaker mode when you exit the game. That way you'll have all the video processing for netflix, youtube etc. That's the whole point of ALLM. It doesn't just turn game mode on when gaming; it also turns it off when not gaming. Doesn't work correctly when VRR is on unfortunately. Hopefully this will be fixed.
hey I have the Q80T and my ps4 pro connected to it but my ps4 says that my TV doesn´t support HDR which is bs. so where/how do I activate HDR on the Q80T? I searched the expert settings under picture but couldn´t find anything HDR related. btw game mode is ON.
I agree with the overall feedback to this video. My local hardware store actually asks users to pay for picture settings and calibration, showing a "before and after" display behind - and actually selling items on the note that: The TV is not usable before you pay for this service. Being able to quickly RUclips this and calibrate colors for free is the kind of content we need to make more readily available. Liking, subscribing and commenting in hopes of making a small impact to the search optimization algorithm so that more people stumble across this!
It's not an older video, but we should've mentioned for sure! We will in future videos. Our understanding is that the exact same results can be achieved through the settings menu, and our recommended settings are already close to the Filmmaker mode!
I actually prefer the Filmmaker Mode on my Q90T for most of my watching. In fact, I don’t have a game system, so pretty much everything I watch uses Filmmaker Mode.
I never tried filmmaker mode because it looks even dimmer than movie mode (which I turn the backlight up yo about 35 and the contrast at 3?) . Do you have the backlight or brightness turned up? To what?
Isn't filmmaker mode too dark? Best buy calibrated my q90t in movie mode and that is great. If a show is too dark I go to Standard mode. I'm no gamer too.
Hello I have bought few days ago a q60t 55 inch , I need to know if is better use gamma 2.2 also without dedicate calibration or leave default value bt.1886. I have also noticed when I use filmmaker mode and external HDD whatching sports or photos automatically tv go in standard mode
Leonardo, I would suggest movie mode at 1886. I think when you have 4k hdr content playing the tv automatically goes to hdr which is brightness or backlight at 50 and contrast at 50 and sharpness at 0 or 3 to bring out the max hdr . That is what it is supposed to do, get brighter in hdr. Then, when hdr is not in the content the tv goes back to your settings. At least that is how I understand it.
As an owner of the q80t and q90t. I have figured the best and easiest way to get the perfect picture is to enable the intelligent settings. And be done with it, I have spent hours calibrating there tv with results that don’t look nearly as good as Samsungs built in intelli / adaptive modes. At the very most you can adjust contrast and brightness for your liking.
So, in VRR with HDR enabled the Q80T has horrific black crush and gamma is blown on ALL firmware for the TV. It isn't as simple as "turn it on", there are -significant- picture degrading qualities that happen when you turn on game mode, HDR, and VRR. Have you tested this? there are a ton of us Q80T, Q90T owners that are suffering with the problem.
We actually just updated our TV methodology to expand our testing in Game Mode! Here is the updated review for the Q80T: www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/q80-q80t-qled As far as score changes go, this dropped the Video Game score from an 8.9 to 8.5 and HDR Gaming from an 8.6 to 8.3. If your curious, you can read about the changes we made here: www.rtings.com/tv/tests/changelogs/1-6 If you've got other suggestions beyond this, let us know and we will pass them along to the appropriate team :)
@@RTINGSdotcom there’s no way this TV should be getting anywhere near these scores for gaming in its current state. Playing in Game mode is atrocious with the non existent local dimming and the fact it’s not mentioned in barely any reviews (if any at all) is insane. Honestly, you’ve got three options with this tv for gaming at the moment: have a dull, dark and washed out picture (even with the gamma cranked up), put contrast enhancer on low and blow out some highlights or suffer the 70+ ms input lag outside game mode.
@@Ben-mj8fn It has been a long time since the Q80T released and Samsung have yet to say anything about how bad and broken it is. Almost all media outlets (HDTVTest/Rtings) have no warnings about how bad game mode is. Only Samsung can truly fix these issues but they don't answer calls about them and their support engineers say the horrible ghosting, overshoot, and more are "expected" behavior. It really is a terrible TV (for gaming) and if you can return the unit and get something else.
The 2020 series TVs have Freesync Premium and this does not support full HDR at all. Unfortunately if you're using VRR then turn off HDR if you want HDR turn off VRR or upgrade to a 2021 model which have Freesync Premium Pro where you can have VRR + full HDR at the same time. Also Playstation is not supported and if you have an NVIDEA card 1050GTX series or later only, you will have to turn on compatability with Freesync and have the latest driver. None of these TVs support G-sync either that is a blatant lie.
Hey guys! I hope you're well. I'm an Q90T 55' and XBOX-SX user - I bought the Q90T 55' a month ago updated to firmware 1497.0 [Europe - Greece] & the picture outside "Game Modes" is just GREAT - When it's on "Game Mode" the screen dims a lot - there are scale lines appeared - much worse on "Game Motion Plus" there are washed out colors and lack of contrast - also what bothers me is VRR + Game Modes it is not properly working with many users also complaining for terrible(2x) lack of Contrast - Brightness - Unbalanced Colors - Dark Screen - Scale Lines and all these issues after previous updates & now with 1497.0 are making the TV unfulfilled by what is promised and advertised. Since i'm also an owner of Samsung ks7000, it's amazing that Game Mode looks much better vs Q90T - Would be greatful if you can make a recommendation over SAMSUNG to adress these issues? Thank you much - Keep up the good work!
@@princevanzee336 The TV is great outside "Game Mode" as well its Auto Motion Plus Mode - colors & all that :) "Game mode" has all the issues i'v mentioned :/ I'v read at their site a firmware - software update is going to be available this month for these issues.. Looking forward!
@@princevanzee336 Maybe your white balance has to be finely ajusted with higher levels ???? Also, on my old 2013 Samsung serie 5000, there were more than 3 options for enhanced contrast (off, low, high - only 3 options now). There should be a cursor with numbers between 1 and 5 or 10, OR low, middle-low, middle, middle-high and high.
Thanks for the settings, good work! In my opinion, the recommended settings for HDR-gaming are a bit too dim. I guess they are perfect for a pitch black room, but I sometimes play in a bright room, or at least a room with some light sources. I have CE set on low and Gamma +2 and love the picture in Game Mode on my PS5. If I just raise the Gamma to +3, it still looks a bit too dark (especially the blacks are a bit crushed in my opinion) and the colours look a bit washed out. Maybe my settings are not 1:1 identical due to the creator's intend, but I guess I am close and as you said, everyone should play with the settings and set them to personal preference :)
Can you provide a setting that will show subtitles correctly? I have this issue where the brightness of the subtitles will be brighter or darker depending on what the background is behind the subtitles. It's very distracting.
Hi, thanks for the report. One question, I have other older Samsung televisions that have the Backlight option, in addition to brightness, contrast, etc. Now, this serves to lower the intensity of the white color (which in my case I need it for my eyesight). In these new televisions such an option does not appear, so how can the intensity of the white be lowered? or just can't? Thanks.-
Do you know how you can change the default start up mode to HDMI which is my cable network, annoying that I have to manually do it via the source button each time!

How do you know the difference between HDR HDR10 and hdr10+? My Samsung q80t only ever says HDR no matter what content I play. I never see HDR10 or HDR10+

For xbox: Game mode, hgig on, all settings standard or off. Then in xbox hdr calibrator, on the first screen turn it all the way to the right (trust me) then calibrate the other two screens as normal. In game 1000nit peak with a 200 ish white point. :)
Brilliant video, thank you 👍 Can I ask, what combination of Q80T HDMI Black Level and PS5 RGB Range would you recommend? I've found conflicting information online about whether the QLEDs "Low" and "Normal" settings refer to Limited and Full RGB range respectively or not.
hey how are the black levels on q70t? I was planning to buy a q60t but since I've been searching for a ps5 compatible TV, 120hz would have been a better choice. is q70t really good?

Hi I just bought the TV and I didn't like the way the ball went while I was watching the match yesterday. When turning on led clear motion, will blur and judder remain at 0?
Auto function for color space on Samsung TV is completely broken. Instead of automatically detecting the incoming signal and matching it's color space the TV is always using the color space which is picked in CUSTOM setting of this feature If you have chosen DCI-P3, AUTO will exactly output DCI-P3. If you have chosen BT.2020, AUTO will exactly output BT.2020. I'm facing this issue on my Q70A and it seems 2020 models are having the same issue like the Q80T and Q90T Now my question is, what "Auto" is more accurate for gaming (in general) and specially for PS5? Auto fom DCI-P3 color gamut or Auto from BT.2020?
on the sertings for white balance which ones do u try?? all of them till u find one u like or wat???? can some1 help please vecouse theres deifferent ones
i’ve been trying to figure that out for months, i’m not sure what color space native uses, it’s ether BT.2020 forced SDR, or DCI, i got sony tv as smaungs tvs this year wasint worth shit, and i’ve always used native but what color space? DCi looks almost same on sony as native on samung but just some colors look off compared to samsung, bt.2020 has some same colors but reds are pinkish, i do know the sony x95j didn’t have wide color gamut or coverage like the qn90a did so it’s gonna be little off compared to the qn90a but heck i literally can’t find an answer and it’s pathetic
My Q70T does some weird stuff. The "black" is usually a shade of grey, especially noticable when watching a movie in a dark room, the black bars are actually grey, and bright enought o create light in the room, which is normal for anything but an OLED. But the strange thing is, when the screen goes blank during a movie, the grey goes dark for a split second until something else appears on the screen. Like when a scene fades to black, or during a credits sequence showing a single name at a time, between names, it goes dark. It drives me nuts, no idea why it happens or how to stop it.
Streaming movies in 4K on Disney+ seems a bit too dark, is there something that I can do to make the screen brighter? Will increasing the gamma help? Thank you

Any suggestions on a 4k TV? I've been playing my Ps4 on an 8 year old Samsung smart tv. Just got a Ps5 and want a quality 4k TV. Probably don't want to spend over 1000-1200. Just want a quality tv but don't need the " newest and best"

What about issue with picture quality? Video quality is very grainy when watching movies on netflix/ Amazonvideo. The video I watch no if there hd/hdr/ 4k all have grainy background..any help would be greatly appreciated
I just received my Q90T and i’m very impressed with the colors and picture quality. I just have some questions: is it unavoidable to have blooming around a bright object on a black background? For example when my PS5 shuts down, the loading logo lights up the entire middle part of the screen. I also experience it if theres lettering on a black/dark background aswell. There’s a significant big halo around the letters/object.. I know it’s not content you watch often, and it’s probably only a short period of time it’s happening, but it is really bad and distracting..): Is my panel bad or is it just the way it is? Is there any settings making it better?
I also just figured out that it’s not all the time it’s that bad, but it happened and was really bad with the “produced by billie eilish” text at the end of the “everything i wanted” musicvideo. Can the dimming zones get confused and “forget”? 😂 It’s a mystery for me
Quick question. I have a Q80T 55 inch, and when game mode is on, all the blacks turn gray even with your settings. Is there any way to circumvent this? Should I lower gamma BT.1886 to -1 through -3? Any help would be appreciated.
I had Best Buy calibrate my q90t in movie mode which looks great. Is this the same now in the other modes? If I change the backlight or other settings in movie any of the modes does that change the calibration in any or all the modes? Or is the calibration permanent in any mode regardless of picture settings. Simply put, I do not want to mess up what the calbrator did by playing with picture settings.
Im struggling to find the best sharpness setting for sdr content, some time leaving it at zero look dull and washed out and on some circonstances its just perfect specially on 4k content , now I leave it at sharpness 4 or 6 And the other one instead of gamma bt1886 on rting you said to ajust the gamma curve to 2.2 but I kind of think im loosing contrast a bit when doing it
Turn off sharpness completely. It essentially introduces noise to give the impression of augmented contrast, its a trick to your eyes. It shouldn't even be there anymore nowadays!
Can I ask a question please I own a samsung Q70T, if I watch movies direct from the Tv using netflix or prime, and the film is in like a letter box mode and there are black lines top and bottom, when i goto settings to try and change the zoom modes they are greyed out, if I watch from my firecube I can then adjust the zoom modes, is there a way I can do it direct when watching on the Tv itself thanks.
Thanks for this video! Some friends and I have seen «green ghosty shadows» in games from PC on our q80t - we do play with the PC named as a random source, but set to game mode, and with VRR sometimes. Is this Worse than PC mode, both in relation to input lag and these shadow-bugs?
I have a q80t also and when playing on ps5 120 fps the purple ghosting youre referring to is too much to handle. It literally hurts your eyes. Ive done some research and it seems many have the same problem. Im not sure if its the whole 2020 line up thats corrupted with this because none of these tv reviewers/advertisers mention it but ive read that q90t and 70t owners have it too. Some people say its a software problem which means it could be fixed in theory i guess but what ive understand Samsung doesnt have a good track record in these fixes. For this reason im thinking of selling the tv in summer and buiyng this years model from someone else than Samsung. If youre thinking about buying one of these tvs for next gen dont make the same mistake me and many others have made.
I have both the Q80t and Q90t and neither do this for me. It sucks for those that have this issue though . I have the Xbox series x so not sure if that changes it.
They do have a Filmmaker mode and we should've discussed this in the video! But, our understanding is that the exact same results can be achieved through the settings menu, and our recommended settings are already close to the Filmmaker mode!
How do I calibrate a 2021 Samsung TV with a PC? It's stuck in Entertain/Graphic mode and most options are grayed out. I can't select Movie, Standard etc. even if I send a YcbCr 16-235 signal from the PC. Very frustrating! Never had this issue with all of the TVs that I've owned in the last 15 years.
Hi, have you noticed playing 120hz games using series x with the inverted ghosting? when you move your character in the game, it leaves like a purple tint that is very distracting and very bad to game? Please test this issue. I have other friends using Q80t that has the same problem.

Hey! We did update the Frame at the end of November and it can display 4k @ 120Hz properly, but the screen flashes every 2-5 seconds when using chroma 4:4:4. Has this been updated since?
@@RTINGSdotcom There is a new software update. It would be great if you run some tests again. I recently bought the TV, but have not able to get my hands on Series X yet. I got it for 4k120 mode. Don't care much about the croma 4:4:4. Does the 4k 120hz mode work smoothly? If not, I'll have to return the TV.
To use this TV as a monitor and not get too much eye strain I have to change it to anything that isn't a PC and set it to movie mode (BFI disabled), because it is the only mode that PWM is @960hz all other modes are @120hz, but the input delay is terrible in contrast... If you are sensible to PWM flicker you gonna have a lot of eye strain, migraine etc
I could not get the middle button to pull up refresh rate when using the Xbox or TV. I have a q 90 t. Instead it selected a game on my Xbox Home Screen? Why?
Enabling Contrast enhancer to make HDR "brighter" is a very bad advice. Sure, it will get brighter, but that is not how HDR is supposed to look. Dark areas in HDR content are supposed to be very dim and only select objects should pop out. Contrast enhancer basically makes HDR pointless brightening the whole image and making it resemblant of SDR.
Exactly! It simply eats up the nits budget immediately, and ABL is soon to follow.. I tried switching Contrast enhancer (CE) between low/off while watching some HDR highlights (lamp posts) the highlight itself was at 1500 nits roughly, and was completely unchanged by setting (CE) on low. Everything, but' the highlight was raised in nits, making the highlight itself much less HDR.. Also yeah, ABL will kick in much sooner, dimming the entire image... What is a good setting for movie mode? Surely contrast and. brightness on 50, but what about ST2084? Should that be on 0 ? (unchanged) I'm wondering what comes closest to the EOTF target.
@@asmodeusml sounds reasonable, thanks for the advice, can you believe, I had a professional come to my house with measuring equipment, and calibrate my Q90T, and he set it in movie mode, and after final calibration - it was set to contrast enhancer low!! Brightness 50 Contrast 50 Contrast enhancer low St2084 0 Warm 2 2 point Calibration (yep he skipped the 20 point! 😓) And NATIVE color space, he skipped color space calibration too ! Perhaps he would argue that native is best to avoid posterization.. He charged alot of money for this, and he used CaiMAN software and measuring device (same as Rtings and HDTVtest) According to the PDF with calibration data he send me afterwards, his settings achieved gamma 2,2, and a perfect EOTF and a near perfect White balance.. I'm having my doubts.. Contrast enhancer over-brightens the image, making you overshoot the EOTF, there is no way this is correct.
@@Lasse3 yeah, that seems to be recurring theme from what I read online when I was doing a research about proper HDR settings because it just did not look right to me. For some reason a lot of people ask whether Contrast Enhancer should be enabled at all because a technician did it when calibrating the display.
@@asmodeusml haha, I bet they do it because they're afraid it will look inferior to OLED, so they have to showcase QLED's strength! If you use the correct videos, it can be quite impressive with contrast enhancer afterall. 😁 but only set to "Low" when set to high it simply starts looking waaay too overbrightened! i use the Q90T alot in game mode though, PlayStation 5. I find that the ultimate setup here is, ST2084 +3 And then 18 clicks in the ps5 HDR adjustment achieving 1500 nits peak brightness and tonemap luminanse. HGIG always enabled. Do you use it for console aswell?
it doesn't explain how to customize the Samsung tv picture format and which button one has to press on the RC. The picture on my screen is stretched vertically, which is annoying when watching TV
For the fit to screen option, that's very subjective. We'd suggest trying it out and seeing if you like it. Though, it may crop the screen weirdly depending on the content you'll be displaying. As for the noise reduction setting, that's something you can use if you want to try and reduce banding, but it may cause a loss in details with high-quality content, (it smooths out banding with low-quality content though).
@@RTINGSdotcom thanks! just heard those options should be turned off as they are by standard automatically turned on. Just wonder where I can find noise reduction on the samsung Q90, cant seem to find it. also turning the "fit to screen" OFF seems to zoom more in, but I guess that is the best and doesnt do anything bad to the picture quality
You would want to go into the HDMI settings for the port you're plugged into and you should be able to enable input signal plus from there. If you continue to experience technical issues though, it'd be best to reach out to Samsung!
Also, I specifically wrote rtings about the jutter and stutter issue on the Samsung TVs. They acknowledged they heard this was a widespread issue. So, I don't know why they put up a video just afterwards about how to adjust settings on the TV. They should have been putting up a video that shows the jutter and stutter issue. Who are they trying to help here? Samsung who is selling the tv, or people who are buying the TV? Lastly, there's no setting that could be changed or adjusted that fixed the jutter or stutter.
Hey Michael! This settings video was in the works before we updated our reviews about the compatability issues with cable boxes. That said, the Q line of TVs were very popular and this video was specifically requested by our users, so that is why we made it.
Hi. Thank you for your great technical reviews. I bought a Samsung Q70A 55 inch yesterday. There is a problem with colors on this TV. For example Sponge Bob cartoon, the Sponge Bob has a very dark yellow color. You think there is a little bit green mixed with yellow or for example, I watched Nat Geo ( not from satellite, by LAN) and the faces were kind of pink instead of natural skin tone. I tried to reduce the color or contrast or testing other picture settings but the problem is still there. What should I do? It's a bummer!
I read that each panel can arrive with it's own calibration ...or level of phase out of calibration. I had a Yellow faces strong effect too and NO fix with the tint cursor. I had to go in white balance, put red and blue at max and lower the green to have a tint with faces at a centered tint obtained on different faces on the screen. I had tried lower levels for red and blue near the middle, but I discovered that Light also comes from the red, green and blue levels in White balance. All the faces and the rest lacked light even at full brightness... Finally, for the TV i received (in that surprise box)it is, in my case, with increased levels of red and blue, and green at 35 or 40 lower than red and blue, the tint is centered at a normal life tone instead of YELLOW and too dark faces. ON TV networks and shows with the cable box AND antenna local channnels, the tint varies between studios or CNN, ABC, CTV, NBC, etc. But at least, a very small tint change will now result in the good tint.

These videos would be very helpful if you would play reference content so the viewer could see what limitations you’re referring to.
The Tizen OS on the older qled tvs such as 2019 R series is so much better than the new Tizen OS. I really like to know why they changed it.
I messed up with the brightness of intlegent mode
So, in VRR with HDR enabled the Q80T has horrific black crush and gamma is blown on ALL firmware for the TV. It isn't as simple as "turn it on", there are -significant- picture degrading qualities that happen when you turn on game mode, HDR, and VRR. Have you tested this? there are a ton of us Q80T, Q90T owners that are suffering with the problem.
We actually just updated our TV methodology to expand our testing in Game Mode! Here is the updated review for the Q80T: www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/q80-q80t-qled
As far as score changes go, this dropped the Video Game score from an 8.9 to 8.5 and HDR Gaming from an 8.6 to 8.3.
If your curious, you can read about the changes we made here: www.rtings.com/tv/tests/changelogs/1-6
If you've got other suggestions beyond this, let us know and we will pass them along to the appropriate team :)
I would like some help with this also. Experiencing exactly the same issue. TV looks awful when VRR is active

Yeah. Scanlines are a total jip. And fucking contrast enhancer set to low is dark as fuck. This was suppose to be a great tv I heard everyone say

Everyone's preferences are different, but a few expert touches and advice are good.
Can you provide a setting that will show subtitles correctly? I have this issue where the brightness of the subtitles will be brighter or darker depending on what the background is behind the subtitles. It's very distracting.
I know its annoying. Set the local dimming to low or standard. Never high! Then it isnt an issue anymore. But then you get a darker picture
Can you localize the setting that stick to a certain source input?
Hi, thanks for the report. One question, I have other older Samsung televisions that have the Backlight option, in addition to brightness, contrast, etc. Now, this serves to lower the intensity of the white color (which in my case I need it for my eyesight). In these new televisions such an option does not appear, so how can the intensity of the white be lowered? or just can't? Thanks.-

What do you guys recommend for the color space setting, AUTO or NATIVE? I feel like that is a very important part of the settings that you left out.
i’ve been trying to figure that out for months, i’m not sure what color space native uses, it’s ether BT.2020 forced SDR, or DCI, i got sony tv as smaungs tvs this year wasint worth shit, and i’ve always used native but what color space? DCi looks almost same on sony as native on samung but just some colors look off compared to samsung, bt.2020 has some same colors but reds are pinkish, i do know the sony x95j didn’t have wide color gamut or coverage like the qn90a did so it’s gonna be little off compared to the qn90a but heck i literally can’t find an answer and it’s pathetic
Native on HDR content, Auto on SDR content
I bought this tv from becuase of your reviews.

Contrast 50

St2084 0

And NATIVE color space, he skipped color space calibration too ! Perhaps he would argue that native is best to avoid posterization..
He charged alot of money for this, and he used CaiMAN software and measuring device (same as Rtings and HDTVtest)
According to the PDF with calibration data he send me afterwards, his settings achieved gamma 2,2, and a perfect EOTF and a near perfect White balance.. I'm having my doubts..
Contrast enhancer over-brightens the image, making you overshoot the EOTF, there is no way this is correct.

Should I have "fit to screen" on or off? and what about noise reduction. this is asked from a gamer settings perspective
Also, I specifically wrote rtings about the jutter and stutter issue on the Samsung TVs. They acknowledged they heard this was a widespread issue. I tried to reduce the color or contrast or testing other picture settings but the problem is still there. What should I do? It's a bummer!
You could try using our recommended settings! www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/q70-q70a-qled/settings
But at least, a very small tint change will now result in the good tint.
all you have to do is to go to video fidelity & overscan and change display to HDMI, then you can change your quality in the resolution settings
